Summary:

The purpose of this program is to help remote and extremely isolated Alaskan villages provide safe and reliable drinking water and waste disposal systems for households and businesses. Funding will support projects to remedy a dire sanitation condition, such as:

  • Recurring instances of waterborne communicable disease
  • Individual residents hauling water to, or hauling human waste from, their homes, or using outhouses because no community-wide water and sewer system exists

Projects must serve rural Alaskan villages or hubs that meet the following requirements:

  • Have a population of 10,000 or fewer
  • Have median household incomes less than 110 percent of the statewide non-metropolitan household income according to the latest Census data

Eligibility is limited to rural Alaska. Refer to the Eligibility section for details.

Eligibility Notes:

Eligible applicants are:

  • Rural Alaskan villages
  • The state of Alaska for the benefit of a rural Alaskan village or hub

Projects must serve rural Alaskan villages or hubs that meet the following requirements:

  • Have a population of 10,000 or fewer
  • Have median household incomes less than 110 percent of the statewide non-metropolitan household income according to the latest Census data

Applicants may verify that they meet the geographic requirement online at eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov, and that they meet the income requirement online at www.census.gov.
