Summary:
The purpose of this program is to increase the resilience of lands facing the threat of wildland fires and to better support federal wildland firefighters. Program funding will provide local governments with financial assistance to acquire slip-on tanker units to establish fleets of vehicles that can be quickly converted to be operated as fire engines.
Project prioritization will be determined by:
- Wildfire Risk to Communities Dashboard National Wildfire Risk to Homes Percentage of the service area(s): project applications will be ordered from highest National Wildfire Risk to Homes Percentage to lowest
- Location/entity information: vehicles available for slip-on tanker installation, population, location, and trained personnel, as well as the applicant's capacity to fulfill the intent of the program, will be considered
The project area of protection/service area(s) must have a population of 25,000 or less, as well as at least a moderate wildfire risk, defined as at least the 40th percentile in the National Wildfire Risk to Homes dataset. Population size and wildfire risk can be determined via the Wildfire Risk to Communities dashboard, found online at wildfirerisk.org.
Units must meet the required minimum specifications as outlined in the MinimumSpecifications file.
