Projects must serve rural Alaskan villages or hubs that meet the following requirements:
- Have a population of 10,000 or fewer
- Have median household incomes less than 110 percent of the statewide non-metropolitan household income according to the latest Census data
Funding may be used for:
- Paying for reasonable costs, including construction, planning, and predevelopment costs, associated with providing potable water or waste disposal services to residents of recipient communities
- Paying for reasonable costs, including maintenance, minor repairs, and operational costs, associated with the use of a recipient community's equipment during construction
- Individual service installations relating to residential homes and not public or commercial facilities, with the exception of facilities necessary for the successful operating and maintenance of the water or sanitation system
