Summary:

The purpose of this program is to allow senators to advocate for projects important to the nation as well as their states and local communities. Participating senators will solicit requests from within their jurisdictions to fund specific projects in specific locations, which they will then submit to the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations for review and consideration for funding. Legislation will be drafted, and upon Senate approval, funds will be allocated to approved local projects. Funding can promote economic development, education, health care initiatives, infrastructure, public safety, and other worthy investments in communities across the country. 

For FY 2026, requests for CDS can be made under the following appropriations bills:

  • Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Related Agencies
  • Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies
  • Energy and Water Development
  • Financial Services and General Government
  • Homeland Security
  • Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies
  • Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), Education, and Related Agencies
  • Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies
  • Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Related Agencies
